 Monastic Rules
  • Carthusian Statutes  The Carthusians were founded by St. Bruno, and although they live in a monastery, spend most of their time in solitude and silence.
  • Rule of Benedict  This is the Leonard Doyle translation, the most literary and graceful rendering in modern English.  Because two-thirds of all monastics are now women, this particular version of Doyle has odd numbered chapters written for men, and even numbered for women.
  • Rule of Saint Clare  The rule of the Poor Clares, a Franciscan order for women.
  • Rule of St. Francis  For the Third Order, also includes commentary.
 Monasteries
  • Monastery of St. Gertrude  A Roman Catholic women's monastery in Cottonwood, Idaho.  Site includes online retreats, and Stations of the Cross
  • Monastery of the Ascension  A Roman Catholic men's monastery in Idaho.  They have a unique distance education program.  They also have a fairly extensive oblate manual online.
  • St. Gregory's Abbey  Our friends at the Episcopal Benedictine monastery in nearby Three Rivers, Michigan.  Visitors welcome.
 Monasticism
  • A Gospel Motivation for the Monastic Life
  • Anglican Religious Communities Worldwide listing
  • Monastic Intereligious Dialog  Monastics have a great deal in common, even when they are of different orders and faiths.
  •  Oblates
    • Guidelines for Oblates  While each monastery is different in its approach to oblate life, a group of Benedictine directors of oblates produced this document to identify common themes and traits.
     Rule of Life
    • Balancing Life by the Rule  A free E-course by author Debra Farrington
    • Making a Rule of Life  A very short sermon about why you should have a rule and what it should incorporate.
